LAWSUIT FILED: ECOURTS SADDLE RIVER

Saddle River police officer Diana Golonek has filed a lawsuit alleging years of discrimination and a hostile work environment within the borough’s police department. As the only female officer, Golonek claims she faced a toxic culture of misogyny under Police Chief Jason Cosgriff, who allegedly dismissed her contributions and participated in bullying.

In her suit, Golonek details instances of ridicule, including mockery over her personal hobbies and unfounded rumors about her being part of a motorcycle gang due to her interest in motorcycles. She also alleges retaliation for exposing misconduct, leading to mistreatment of colleagues who supported her.

Golonek claims she has been denied training opportunities and subjected to false disciplinary actions, further exacerbating the hostile environment. The lawsuit cites violations of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and the Civil Rights Act, addressing issues of gender discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

As this case unfolds, it highlights the critical need for cultural change within law enforcement to foster a safe and equitable workplace for all officers.
