SADDLE RIVER, NJ – Mayor Albert Kurpis has long portrayed himself as a leader dedicated to the betterment of Saddle River. But beneath the polished public image lies a troubling record of failed leadership, unchecked corruption, and blatant disregard for accountability. From mishandling town resources to looking the other way on abuses of power, Kurpis has enabled a toxic culture of cronyism, intimidation, and dysfunction—and residents are paying the price.
A Mayor Who Governs for Himself, Not the People
Elected officials are meant to serve their constituents. Mayor Kurpis, however, has consistently served his own interests, prioritizing his political survival over integrity and transparency.
🔹 Silencing Dissent: Instead of addressing community concerns, Kurpis is known for suppressing critics and stonewalling accountability efforts. Town Hall has become a place of backroom deals and selective enforcement, rather than public service.
🔹 Failure to Address Police Misconduct: Under his watch, the Saddle River Police Department has been plagued by scandals, discrimination claims, and abuse of power. Instead of holding bad actors accountable, Kurpis has protected those who perpetuate a culture of harassment—including Police Chief Jason Cosgriff.
🔹 Cronyism Over Competence: Rather than placing qualified leaders in key positions, Kurpis has surrounded himself with loyalists who will do his bidding. His administration is more concerned with loyalty than with ethical governance—a strategy that has led to unchecked abuses in both local government and law enforcement.
Ignoring Gender Discrimination and Harassment Claims
One of the most damning examples of Kurpis’ failed leadership is his handling of gender discrimination within the Saddle River Police Department. Sgt. Diana Golonek, the town’s only female officer, has detailed years of harassment and retaliation under Police Chief Jason Cosgriff—yet Kurpis has remained silent, refusing to intervene.
📌 When Golonek filed a formal harassment complaint in July 2023, what did Mayor Kurpis do?
💬 Nothing.
📌 When Cosgriff allegedly targeted her with retaliatory disciplinary charges?
💬 Still nothing.
A true leader would demand an independent investigation and ensure justice is served. Instead, Kurpis has chosen to let harassment thrive under his administration.
Lack of Transparency and Leadership Failures
🔹 A Mayor Who Hides from Accountability: Kurpis is well known for deflecting responsibility whenever controversy arises. When questioned about issues in the police department, budget concerns, or mismanagement, he refuses to provide answers.
🔹 A Record of Questionable Decisions: Whether it’s mishandling town resources, failing to address corruption, or ignoring public complaints, Kurpis has proven time and time again that he is not fit to lead.
🔹 Refusal to Clean Up the Police Department: Rather than demanding professionalism, he has stood by as Chief Cosgriff runs the department like his personal fiefdom. The result? A department rife with bias, retaliation, and leadership failures—all under the Mayor’s watch.
Time for Change
Saddle River deserves a leader who stands for accountability, fairness, and transparency—not one who protects corruption and ignores discrimination.
If Mayor Albert Kurpis refuses to do his job, the people of Saddle River should demand leadership that will.
